Moonfolk

The moonfolk are an enigmatic race of humanoids, who are capable of flight and live in floating cities in the clouds. The moonfolk are most commonly known for their observant and academic nature, as well as for their otherworldly appearance. They resemble tall and
elegant humans, except for their very pale skin, long
ears that fall to their shoulders, flowing silver hair, and animated runes in place of eyebrows.

Moonfolk Traits

As a Moonfolk, your character shares the following traits with all other Moonfolk.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your choice of your Wisdom
score or your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age. Moonfolk reach maturity around age 20 and
can live anywhere from 200-250 years.

Alignment. Most Moonfolk are commonly of
lawful good or neutral alignments.

Size. Moonfolk average 5 to 6 feet in height. Your
size is medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. Accustomed to observation under
the night sky, you have superior vision in dark
and dim conditions. You can see in dim light
within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. Your ties to the moon make your darkvision unusual: everything you see in darkness is in a shade of blue.

Levitation. Using the gravitational magic of the
moon, moonfolk naturally hover a few feet above the ground. You have a flying speed of 30 feet. To use this movement, you must be within 5 feet of the ground or the surface of a liquid.

As a reaction to falling you may reduce the fall damage taken by an amount equal to four times your level.

Arcane Studies. Choose a 1st-level spell with the ritual tag from the wizard spell list. You can cast this spell
at-will but, only as a ritual.

You also know one cantrip of your choice from the wizard spell list. Intelligence is your spellcasting
ability for these spells.

Enlightenment. You have proficiency in one of
the following skills of your choice: Arcana, History, Investigation, Medicine, Nature, Perception, Persuasion or Religion.

Languages. You can read, write, and speak Common, Soratami, and one language of your choice.

Playing a Moonfolk

Observationalists

First and foremost, the moonfolk are observers. They do not like getting involved with conflict, and will often use any tools available to them to avoid combat. However, if forced into a fight the moonfolk tend to employ spells of the abjuration, conjuration, illusion, and enchantment schools of magic in order to avoid and redirect attacks, or to escape combat entirely.

Beliefs and the Moon

Moonfolk tend to worship deities of knowledge, of magic, and of the moon. Common examples in the Forgotten Realms are Selûne and Mystra.

The moon plays a large role in moonfolk culture. It is believed that the moonfolk originate from and gain their innate abilities from the it. It isn't uncommon for moonfolk to wear jewelry and have foci made of moon rocks and asteroids.

Heads in the Clouds

The moonfolk commonly live in large palaces in the clouds with grand libraries and observatories dedicated to the world above and below. Information flows freely within these palaces and between moonfolk for the advancement of knowledge.

Most moonfolk believe themselves to be above the concerns and conflicts of the land dwellers, and they often appear aloof and distant to others. As a result of wanting to avoid wars and conflicts at all costs, it is notoriously difficult to gain access to a moonfolk city as an outsider, for it is protected both by magic and distance.

Although it is difficult to get to a moonfolk, if you can prove to one that you are worthy of teaching or learning from, you have made a wise and lasting friend.
