The Realm of Ash and Embers
"Indeed, this here land of Ordmaer, realm of the damned and dead, domain of the Undead Lords. We baseborn live beneath their heel, holding tightly to the flame within our soul. Those who willingly set that fire free, those with the bravery of the gods, mayhaps they have the will to fight those who would oppress us."
- Unknown Soulkeeper
The undead are a common sight to behold in the land of Ordmaer. Not only is it filled with the corpses of the fallen, those who would dare challenge the lords of the land, but the lords themselves are almost always liches themselves. From Ashwin, Elder of Crowns, to Eanwin, High Priestess of Truths, each one has their own level of cruelty in their own kingdoms. No one dares challenge them, for fear of losing their souls as fuel for their phylacteries. No one, except the Vestiges.
Nameless and souless, worth less than a millisecond of time for a lich and incapable of being released from life, they are the only ones who may truly rise against the Lich Lords of Ordmaer. While the Lords are powerful beyond mortality, the Vestiges are unkillable, and will adapt, will learn, and will kill their target, all in due time, time that is valuable to liches.
Ancient Origins
Ordmaer, known as The Realm of Ash and Embers, has ancient ties to the divine and the manifest, and to the unholy and the reverent. The entirety of the realm has a strong link to the Shadowfell, a plane of pure darkness and decay. Henceforth, undead typically become plentiful in this realm, especially those with ties to the darkness, such as Bodaks and Nightwalkers. Many kings and queens have tried to combat this, but to no avail. Eventually, they resorted to becoming undead themselves, in a desperate attempt to outlive the darkness. However, the shadows eventually consumed them, corrupting their souls and twisting their minds
