## Nepenthe *Weapon(double-bladed scimitar) magic item(requires attunement)* *Nepenthe* resembles two hilts of black iron connected by a handle wrapped in dark leather. While grasping the hilt, you can use a bonus action to cause a blade of pure shadow to spring from each end, or make the blades disappear. While the blade exists, this magic double-bladed scimitar has the finesse property. If you are proficient with double-bladed scimitars, you are proficient with *Nepenthe*. ### Sentience *Nepenthe* is a sentient neutral evil weapon with Intelligence 16 , Wisdom 16 and Charisma 18 . It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120ft. This weapon can speak telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read and understand Elvish and Common. ### Personality *Nepenthe* is inhabited by a long-dead elven shadowdancer named Elian who once owned one of the blades. The weapon despises weakness and emotion, encouraging its wielder to be dispassionate in all things. It believes that power is there to be used not squandered. If the wielder dies while holding *Nepenthe*, Elian will inhabit their corpse until the body fails him and he is forced to return to the blade. ### Dormant * You gain a +1 to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals psychic damage instead of slashing. * You may cast *Invisibility* 1/day with this item. * You gain Darkvision and can speak, read and write Elvish. * You may add 1d4 to Stealth Rolls ### Awakened * The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2 and each hit deals an additional 2d4 psychic damage. * You may cast *Greater Invisibility* 1/day. * You gain advantage on attack rolls when targeting a creature in dim light or darkness. \columnbreak ### Exalted * The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +3 and each hit deals an additional 3d4 psychic damage. * You may cast *Shadow of Moil* at will. * Whenever you reduce a creature to 0HP, this weapon gains a charge. As a bonus action, you may expend up to 3 charges to summon three Shadows. These are friendly to you and will obey your orders, acting on your initiative. You cannot use this feature again until the next sunset. ### Two Blades, Two Brothers Nepenthe was crafted by the dragonforged artificer Singer, at the request of the elf Reshi. Reshi gave Singer the hilts of two broken swords, his own and that of his twin Elian.
