College of Friendship

A sense of camaraderie shines at the heart of healthy communities, whether bound together by blood, faith, or some other uniting force. Bards from the College of Friendship use music and the arts as such a force to deepen and nurture the bonds of friendship. This music bolsters and inspires allies as well as turns aside malign influences.

Gift of Gab

When you join the College of Friendship at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in three languages of your choice.

You learn the friends cantrip (if you already know the friends cantrip, you may instead learn an additional bard cantrip).

Additionally, you gain the following spells at the designated level, you always have them prepared, and they do not count against your number of spells known.

3th Charm Person
5th Calm Emotions
7th Fast Friends
9th Charm Monster

Benefits of Friendship

Enjoying life's ups and downs, meeting new people, and spreading joy has taught you the benefits of having friends. At 3rd level, you can share these benefits to others.

Whenever you give a creature a Bardic Inspiration die, you can designate an additional benefit.

Benefit of Enmity. Immediately after the creature rolls the Bardic Inspiration die to add it to an attack roll, the creature can use the benefit to curse its target, dealing an additional amount of pyschic damage equal to the result rolled on the Bardic Inspiration die.

Benefit of Protection. Immediately after the creature rolls the Bardic Inspiration die and adds it to a saving throw, the creature can use the benefit to gain temporary hit points equal to the number rolled on the Bardic Inspiration die + your Charisma modifier, provided the creature doesn't already have temporary hit points.

Benefit of Benevolence. When the creature rolls the Bardic Inspiration die to add it to an ability check, the creature can use the benefit to roll the Bardic Inspiration die again and choose which roll to use.

Everybody's Friend

At 6th level when you cast the friends cantrip you gain the following benefits:

  • When directing the spell towards a designated creature, you may choose a total number of creatures equal to your Charisma modifier.
  • If the targets are indifferent or friendly, you may treat a roll of 7 or lower as a 8.
  • When you cast friends you may choose to direct it towards creatures hostile to you. The targets remains hostile to you, but have disadvantage on all attacks against you for the duration. The first time an affected target hits you the spell ends and it is immune to your friends cantrip for 24 hours.
  • When your friends cantrip ends, the target makes a Wisdom saving throw versus your spell DC. On a failure, the creature does not realize you used magic to influence its mood.

Better Together

At 14th level your friendship brings out the best in others. As an action you may choose any number of friendly creatures that can see or hear you. Each creature gains temporary hit points equal to your bard level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). When a creature gains temporary hit points in this way they gain the ability to use the Help action as a bonus action for 1 minute. Additionally, when they use the Help action to aid an ally in attacking a creature, the target of that attack can be within 30 feet of them, rather than within 5 feet, if the target can see or hear them. Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
