A construct of solidified light appears around your clenched hand and lasts there until you release your grip. You determine the construct's appearance - for example, it might be an intricate assembly of interlocking arcane shapes, or a perfect copy of a shield borne by a famous ancestor. The construct casts bright light out to 20 feet and dim light out to another 20 feet. Additionally, if you are proficient with shields, you may use the construct to defend yourself, gaining a +1 bonus to your Armor Class and qualifying for features which require the use of a shield.

At Higher Levels: The bonus increases by +1 when you reach 5th level (+2), 11th level (+3) and 17th level (+4).

You gain the Shield of Light cantrip. You can use the construct it creates as a spellcasting focus for your paladin spells, and if you cast a different paladin spell which requires concentration, you can maintain the construct throughout the spell's duration.
