Dronemason Archetype

A Dronemason specializes in using tiny remotely-piloted magical creations to attack, defend, and support. Dronemason are rarely found alone because their drones constantly swarm around them at their command.

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with mason’s tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Dronemason Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Dronemason Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Dronemason Spells
Artificer Level Dronemason Spells
3rd Silent Image, Shield
5th Mirror Image, Misty Step
9th Conjure Barrage, Thunder Step
13th Arcane Eye, Fire Shield
17th Mass Cure Wounds, Wall of Force

Drone Swarm

Beginning at 3rd level, you can craft flying drones. At the end of a short or long rest, you can use your mason’s tool to magically create any number of drones of your choice. You can only have up to a number of drones equal to 1 + half your Artificer level, rounded up, at any time. Whenever you craft a drone that exceeds this maximum, one existing drone of your choice is immediately destroyed.

Each time you create or reassemble a drone, you decide which type it is, choosing from the options on the Drones table. You also determine the drones’ appearance and mode of flight; your choice has no effect on their game statistics.

Each drone is a Tiny flying object that can occupy another creature’s space. They have one hit point and AC equal to 12 + your proficiency bonus. Whenever they are located on your           body or are attached to an ally, their relatively small size             makes them immune to damage.

You can control your drones while they are within                              30 feet of you, and drones outside this range                                  automatically try to move and land on your                                      body. On each of your turns, you can use                                         a bonus action to move your drones up                                            to 30 feet. As part of the same bonus                                            action, you can command drones of                                                    one type to activate (refer to the                                                                 Drones table). At the end                                                                        of a battle, you can                                                                           reassemble up to                                                                           half your destroyed                                                                           drones by taking a                                                                             minute to Search                                                                             the battlefield.

Drones
Drone Activation Effect
Combat You choose a target you can see. You can command up to a number of combat drones equal to your proficiency bonus to attack, provided they are within 5 feet of the target. Each combat drone makes an attack roll using your Intelligence modifier. On a hit, it deals 1d8 force damage and destroys itself.
Defense You command any number of defender drones to attach to creatures of your choice and protect them. When a protected creature is hit by an attack, it can destroy an attached drone (no action required) to gain a +3 to its AC against that attack, potentially turning it into a miss.
Scout You magically connect to one scout drone of your choice until you end it using another a bonus action. For the duration, you can see, hear, and speak through the drone, which has darkvision up to 30 feet, and you can take the Search action as if you were in the drone’s place. During this time, you are deaf and blind with regard to your own senses.
Worker Each worker drone can carry up to 15 pounds. You can command a worker drone to destroy itself to take the Help action.

Drone Delivery

At 5th level, you develop masterful command of your drones, enhancing the healing and damage you create through them. Whenever you cast a spell with the range of touch, you can move a drone up to 30 feet and deliver the spell through the drone. If the spell restores hit points or rolls for damage, you gain a bonus to the roll equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).

Drone Strike

Starting at 9th level, you can call on your drones to violently self-destruct. As an action, you can command a number of drones up to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1) to explode at a point within 30 feet you can see. Each creature within 15 feet of that point must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking damage on a failed save or half as much on a success. The damage is equal to 1d6 force damage for each drone you commanded to explode.

Drone Formation

By 15th level, your drones can protect an area from intruders. As a bonus action, you can command two or more drones to disperse. Each drone moves to an unoccupied space of your choice you can see. For the duration, the area within 5 feet of each drone is considered difficult terrain. Once on each of its turns, a creature that enters this area for the first time or starts its turn there must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC or take 3d8 force damage.
