Otherworldly Patron: The Librarian
Your patron is the keeper of a large source of knowledge, be it facts, ingredients, or arcane secrets. You have reached out to them to gain the secrets of the multiverse and power. In return, you search for secret knowledge lost in time or those not found in the library.
Expanded Spell List
Your patron's vast fount of information lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Spell Level | Spells |
---|---|
1st | Identify, Magic Missile |
2th | Locate Object, Zone of Truth |
3rd | Clairvoyance, Speak with Dead |
4th | Fabricate, Leomund's Secret Chest |
5th | Creation, Legend Lore |
Patron's Gift
At 1st level you gain a skill proficiency of your choice. You gain another at 6th, 10th and 14th level.
Book of spells
At 1st level, you receive a book containing two warlock cantrips of your choice. You gain another cantrip at 6th level. These don't count against your number of cantrips known. You can only cast these when your book is on your person.
Your Book of spells The spells that you add to your book as you gain levels reflect the arcane findings you have found about the nature of the multiverse. You might find other spells during your adventures.
Copying a Spell into the Book. When you find a warlock spell of 1st level or higher, you can add it to your book if it is of a level for which you have spell slots and if you can spare the time to decipher and copy it. Copying a spell into your book involves reproducing the basic form of the spell, then deciphering the unique system of notation used by the spellcaster and their patron who wrote it. You must practice the spell until you understand the sounds or gestures required, then transcribe it into your book using your own notation. For each level of the spell, the process takes 3 hours and costs 50 gp. The cost represents material components you expend as you experiment with the spell to master it, as well as the ink you need to record it. Once you have spent this time and money, you can cast it just like your other spells.
Replacing the Book. You can copy a spell from your own book into another book, for example, if you want to make a backup copy of your book. This is just like copying a new spell into your book, but faster and easier, since you understand your own notation and already know how to cast the spell. You need to spend only 1 hour and 10 gp for each level of the copied spell. If you lose your book, you can use the same procedure to transcribe the spells that you have prepared into a new book. Filling out the remainder of your book requires you to find new spells to do so, as normal.
All spells gained or copied this way can only be cast while the book is on your person. If you later gain the Pact of the Tome feature, your book can count as the Book of Shadows.
Access to Knowledge
At 6th level, You can enter your patron’s library through a doorway during a rest. While inside, you can:
- Learn a piece of information about a creature’s lore or stats, however, some creatures aren’t recorded (DM’s discretion).
- Gain proficiency with a skill or tool until you use this feature again
- Learn the location of simple things like the nearest town but not things like a specific object or creature.
You can only use two of these effects per rest and you still have to sleep if you have to. You can only use this feature twice per day. Additionally, you also are able to discover how to cast spells more quickly, the time to record a spell now takes 2 hours per spell level.
Arcane Boost
At 10th level, you gain 2 additional spell slots that are 1st level. You gain a 2nd level spell slot and another 1st level spell slot at 14th level. When you use these spell slots they are recovered at the end of a long rest instead of a short rest.
Spell Storage
At 14th level, your patron bestows you part of its shelves. As an action, you can store a spell slot in a shelf in the form of a book. Storing a spell expends the slot but allows you to use it to cast a spell at a later date. You can only store slots up to a total level of five at a time in this way. The amount of slots that can be stored increases to a total level of ten at 17th level. Additionally, you can copy non-warlock spells into your book.
