### The Spellcaster Pack A practitioner of magic has a fair amount to carry around compared to the sparse scholar's pack. Some of these items are quite bulky, necessitating at least a small backpack versus a satchel. Not all those skilled in the ways of the arcane need the same equipment, but everything within the pack has a use. One of the most expensive packs available, the spellcaster pack provides invaluable bonuses to a variety of tasks they perform throughout their careers |Item|Cost|Weight| |:-|:-:|:-:| |Backpack|2 gp|5 lbs.| |Bedroll|1 gp|7 lbs.| |Bottles of Ink, set of 4|20 gp|1 lb.| |Candles, 5|5 cp|.25 lb.| |Fine Ink Quill|1 gp| - | |Journeybread|10 gp|.5 lb.| |Magnifying Glass, small|25 gp.|1 lb.| |Parchment, 10 sheets|1 gp| - | |Scholarly Journal|20 gp|2.5 lbs.| |Scroll Case|1 gp|1 lb.| |Tinderbox|5 sp|1 lb.| |Waterskin|2 sp|5 lbs.| ***Backpack*** A cloth or leather sack that is carried on one’s back and secured with two straps that go over the shoulders. They can vary in size and shape, but all standard backpacks hold one cubic foot and up to 30 lb. ***Bedroll*** Bedding and a blanket thin enough to be rolled up and tied. ***Bottles of Ink*** A specialized set of ink that contains 4 bottles. If an ink has an additional ingredient, it is a minimal amount, infused with regular black ink. These inks have special qualities that are listed below. Specialized ink quantities are much smaller than regular black ink. Each bottle of such an ink holds enough to write a total of 3 pages. * **Common Black Ink** - Ink that is normally used for most writing, whether on parchement, paper or in a spellbook. * **Quickling Blood Ink** - Normal black ink with a few drop of blood from a Quickling, this ink causes the writers hand to glide across parchment with a speed beyond that which is normal. Scribing a spell scroll takes 1/2 the normal time to complete. * **Will-o'-Wisp Essence** - This ink has been infused with the essence of a single Will-o'-Wisp, causing clear tendrils to float around in the black ink. When the spellcaster uses this ink, the writing is invisible to the naked eye and can only be revealed by a humanoid spilling at least one drop of blood on the page. * **Umber Hulk Tears Ink** - Added to this ink is a single tear from an Umber Hulk. All writing done in the ink is incomprehensible to everyone, including the writer. It can be deciphered using the Comprehend Languages spell. ***Candles*** Simple wax candle that for one hour sheds bright light in a 5-foot-radius and dim light for an additional 5 feet. ***Fine Ink Quill*** A writing tool made from a moulted flight feather of a large bird. The fine quill is needed to properly use the special inks in the Ink Set listed above. ***Journeybread*** A specially designed biscuit that fills the stomach and provides all necessary nutrients with only a few small bites, so you can carry food for a long journey without weighing yourself down. The spellcaster pack includes 2 pieces of journeybread. ***Magnifying Glass*** This lens allows a closer look at small objects. It is also useful as a substitute for flint and steel when starting fires. Lighting a fire with a magnifying glass requires light as bright as sunlight to focus, tinder to ignite, and about 5 minutes for the fire to Ignite. A magnifying glass grants advantage on any ability check made to appraise or inspect an item that is small or highly detailed. ***Parchment*** A sheet of parchment is a piece of goat hide or sheepskin that has been prepared for writing on. ***Scholarly Journal*** A small leather bound book, each scholarly journal is a folio on a very specific topic, such as vampires or the history of a single town or neighborhood of a city. If you spend 1 minute referencing the journal before attempting an Insight check about the subject, you gain a +1 bonus to the check. The GM determines what scholarly journals are available for the pack. ***Scroll Case*** This cylindrical leather case can hold up to ten rolled up sheets of paper or five rolled up sheets of parchment. ***Tinderbox*** This small container holds flint, fire steel, and tinder (usually dry cloth soaked in light oil) used to kindle a fire. ***Waterskin*** A container that is made from the bladder of a cow or goat, it can hold up to 4 pints of liquid.
