Biology and Appearance

Amarans are a small, bipedal sentient species with clawed digits, pointed ears, long snouts, and fur-covered bodies with bushy tails. Their fur ranges in color, but a common sight is a pattern of red-orange fur across the back, tail, and outside of the arms and legs with white patches on the limbs, ears, snout, neck, and belly. Their fur grows short on most of the body with the exceptions of the tail and of tufted jowls. Amaran eyes are often black, but green, blue, and even red have been sighted amongst a few members of the species. Males in the species tend to be taller and heavier than the females, though unless breast-feeding the females have no obvious breasts and are often indistinguishable from males. Both sexes are considered adults by the age of 18.

Society and Culture

Amarans are known to be unrepentant hagglers, bargaining and bickering over every transaction to get the best deal they could. Many Amarans are expert beast handlers, taming and breeding many non-sentient species for sale throughout the galaxy. Amarans have taken great strides in maintaining their homeplanet's environment, with poaching considered a heinous crime. Amarans also have a mythological reverence for the stars which inspired the species to reach the heavens and create their own primitive version of hyperspace travel.

Names

Not much is known about Amaran naming conventions, though it has been noted that many do not go by their birth name and are instead given nicknames derived from their personality and skills.

Surnames. Rurrri (male), Surru (female)





Amaran Traits

As an Amaran, you have the following special traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age. Amarans reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.

Alignment. Amaran's tendency for frivolity and canniness make them lean towards Neutral alignment, though there are exceptions.

Size. Amarans typically stand 3.5 to 4 feet tall and generally weigh about 50 lbs. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Small.

Undersized. Your small stature makes it hard for you to wield bigger weapons. You can't use heavy shields or martial weapons with the two-handed property unless it has the light property, and if a martial weapon has the versatile property, you can only wield it in two hands.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Naturally Stealthy. You can attempt to hide when you are obscured by a creature that is larger than you.

Vulpine Agility. Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

Business Savvy. A common trait of all Amarans is their desire and love of haggling. Amarans believe a deal is done when both sides believe they got the better of the other. Whenever you make a Charisma (Persuasion) check involving haggling you are considered to have expertise in the Persuasion skill.

Beast Mastery. You have proficiency with Animal Handling and Nature.

Crafters. You have proficiency with one artisan's tool of your choice.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Galactic Basic, Amaran, and one other language of your choice.
