Half-Phoenix

Many a mortal has attempted to achieve immortality. Some seek the gulthias tree. Some strive to master contingent resurrection. Some yearn for the philosopher's stone.

Very few of them are so utterly depraved as to achieve it by procreating with a phoenix. While this superstition does have legitimate foundation in reality, it is considered unsafe, and thoroughly base. But still, wizard after wizard is drawn to it, leading to a constant and steady trickle of near-immortal offspring, all bafflingly intelligent, dazzlingly beautiful, and armed with hopeless dads and distant moms.

"Are you kidding? I am absolutely going to make love to a phoenix! The phoenix is a naughty freak, and so am I! You can't stop me, I am Arthur Aguefort!" - Arthur Aguefort

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Age. A half-phoenix reaches maturity at the same age as a human and usually reincarnates around the age of 150.

Alignment. Half-phoenixes are unlikely to be particularly lawful, and are often as chaotic as their parents. Even if they do turn out to be lawful, they usually nurse a soft spot for lawbreakers.

Size. Half-phoenixes stand between 6 and 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Flight. You have a flying speed of 20 feet. To use this speed, you can't be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Elemental Heritage. You are immune to fire damage dealt by your own spells and abilities. Additionally, you know the light cantrip, but you can only cast it targeting yourself.

Burning Talons. Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal fire damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Phoenix Reincarnation. When you die, you can choose to explode. If you do so, each creature within 20 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw against a DC of 8 + your Constitution modifier + your Proficiency Bonus, taking fire damage equal to 1d12 + your current level on a failed save, or half as much damage on a success. The fire ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.

The explosion almost destroys your body, leaving behind only a tiny egg-shaped cinder that weighs 5 pounds.

After 100 days, as long as you haven't been resurrected by other means, the cinder hatches into a new half-phoenix. The new reincarnation retains only its ideals, bonds, and flaws: it loses all class levels, and remembers nothing of its previous lives.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before you use it again.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Primordial. Primordial is a guttural language, filled with harsh syllables and hard consonants.
