Chromatic Soul

Sorcerous Origin

Your innate magic comes from the power of a certain color of magic. You might have endured exposure to chromatic magic, perhaps through a planar portal, a powerful prismatic spell, or some raw magical fluke during your birth. Whatever your past, a specific color of magic is yours to command.

Chromatic Ancestry

Choose a color from the table below. The damage type is used by features you gain later.

Color Damage Type
Red Fire
Orange Acid
Yellow Lightning
Green Poison
Blue Cold
Indigo Thunder
Violet Psychic
White Radiant
Black Necrotic

You learn an additional cantrip of your choice from any spell list. The cantrip you choose must deal the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry. The cantrip is a sorcerer cantrip for you.

Chromatic Affinity

Your affinity for a specific element allows you to learn certain spells from any spell list. When your Spellcasting feature lets you learn or replace a sorcerer cantrip or a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose the new spell from any spell list. If the spell is not on the Sorcerer spell list, the chosen spell must deal the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry. You must otherwise obey all the restrictions for selecting the spell, and it becomes a sorcerer spell for you.

In addition, whenever you cast a spell of 1st-level or higher that deals damage, you can choose to substitute one of its damage types with the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry.

Chromatic Empowerment

At 6th level, you gain resistance to to the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry and spells you cast ignore resistance to the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry.

When you cast a cantrip that deals damage of the type associated with your chromatic ancestry, and your attack roll misses or a target succeeds on the saving throw against it, the target takes half the cantrip’s damage but suffers no additional effect from the cantrip.

Chromatic Fury

Starting at 14th level, when you cast a spell of 5th-level or lower that deals damage of the type associated with your chromatic ancestry, you can deal maximum damage with that spell by spending a number of sorcery points equal to the sorcery point cost of spell slot level according to The Creating Spell Slots table.

Chromatic Soul

At 18th level, you are able to transform into an embodiment of the chromatic magic within you. As a bonus action to grant yourself 50 temporary hit points that last for 1 hour. While you have these temporary hit points, you gain the following benefits:

  • You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light in an additional 30 feet. The light is the color of your chromatic ancestry.
  • You can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing, and you have advantage on ability checks and saving throws against effects that would grapple, paralyze, petrify, or restrain you.
  • You have immunity to the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry.
  • Any spell or effect you create treats immunity to the damage type associated with your chromatic ancestry as resistance to the damage type.
  • If a creature touches you or hits you with a melee attack while within 5 feet of you, it takes damage of the type associated with your chromatic ancestry equal your Charisma modifier.
  • Whenever you deal damage, you can add your Charisma modifier to one of the damage rolls. The extra damage is of the type associated with your chromatic ancestry.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
