Lapine - Player Race

The lapine are a hyper-aggressive race of Leporidae-humanoids that is primarily motivated by an insatiable desire to conquer and oppress. Their society is rigidly feudalistic and has clearly defined class roles that are determined at birth. From the first moment it appears in a birthing cavern, a lapine’s function is established.

The lapine place little value in any individual life. Because they can reproduce at a breathtaking rate, an important aspect of their combat tactics involves overwhelming their foes with sheer numbers. In any battle, masses of the physically frail and small lapine are likely to be slaughtered, but they can always breed more.

All lapine are bred to serve a specific purpose, without deviation or expectation to be anything other than their assigned role. The vast majority of lapine are bred to be peasants and shock troops.

Lapine Heritages

Lapine lead short, highly-regimented lives, most having been bred for a singular purpose. Choose one of the following lapine heritages at 1st level. A lapine's heritage also determines its size, from the massive jackrabbits standing in at nearly 6 feet, to the diminutive troublescryer at barely 3 feet.

Jackrabbit

You have been bred to act as a frontline vanguard, with a well-muscled frame and larger than average stature. Your size is Medium. You count as one size larger for the purposes of determining your bulk and size, and you receive a +1 circumstance bonus to Athletics checks when shoving, grappling, tripping, or forcing open.

Softpaw

You have been bred to act as a scout or messenger, with a smaller, lighter frame. Your size is Small. Your Speed increases by 5 feet.

Broodkeeper

You were bred to train and command the legions of broodhoppers that serve as Lapine shock troops. Your size is Medium. You gain the Group Coercion skill feat. If you roll a success on an Intimidation or Diplomacy to coerce or influence the behavior of another Lapine, you get a critical success instead; if you rolled a critical failure, you get a failure instead.

Warrenbuilder

You were bred with the special purpose of constructing the vast, twisting underground warrens that the Lapine call home. Your size is Medium. You gain a burrow speed equal to half your Speed. You do not need to hold your breath while burrowing, but you leave a tunnel behind.

Troublescryer

You have been bred for your large, especially finely-tuned ears, which are able to detect even the slightest whispers of sound. Your size is Small. As long as you can hear normally, you can use the Seek action to sense undetected creatures in a 60-foot cone instead of a 30-foot cone. You also gain a +2 circumstance bonus to locate undetected creatures that you could hear within 30 feet with a Seek Action.
