Woodland Pranksters

Pukwudgie are fond of playing tricks on those who enter their woods. These range from innocent practical jokes, to mean-spirited humiliation, to deadly traps. They have some trouble understanding people who don't get the joke.

Old as the Hills

Pukwudgie lived in the woods back when humans and elves had just barely learned to walk upright. They consider the woods their home and find cities uncomfortable. Urban encroachment upon their lands typically leads to the destruction of the city.

Pukwudgie Rebels

Some pukwudgie find living in the woods playing jokes to be a waste of time when everyone else is living in cities, having a good time. Some join them, while others try to destroy as much civilization as possible. Either way, they are treated as outcasts for having gone to the cities.

Adventuring as a Pukwudgie

While most Pukwudgie who leave the woods are forbidden to return, at least until they make suitable repayment, there is one significant exception to this rule. Pukwudgie who take an oath to oppose the forces of lawful evil are free to come and go as they please.

You can use the Pukwudgie Quirks table to determine a personality quirk for your character or to inspire a single mannerism.

6 You play tricks on your friends almost compulsively.
7 You have a mild enmity towards elves, whom you consider usurpers of the forests.
8 You prefer your food raw and fresh from the wild.

Pukwudgie Traits

Your pukwudgie character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age. Pukwudgie typically live between 80-150 years of age. They reach maturity around age 15.

Alignment. Most pukwudgie are chaotic. They see the world as a game to be played, and are frequently confused when others express sentiments to the contrary. Pukwudgie society considers lawful good boring and lawful evil deeply disturbing.

Size. Pukwudgie typically stand around 3 feet tall and weigh between 30 and 50 pounds. Your size is small.

Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Pukwudgie Magic. You can cast animal friendship and entangle with this trait, using Charisma as your spellcasting ability for them. Once you cast either spell, you can't cast it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Trickster's Skill. You are proficient in Deception, Stealth and Sleight of Hand.

Quills. Your back is covered in long, sharp quills. Whenever a creature hits you with a melee attack with range of 5 feet or less, they take 2d4 piercing damage.

Languages: You can speak, read and write Common and Sylvan.
