# Oath of the Dragoon The ancient history of dragons and their influence on the realms has long been known to almost all mortal denizens. What has been nearly forgotten are the warriors who sought to emulate the dragon's power and grace in their fighting style. Clad in shining armor in reverence to the dragons, the dragoons wielded long reaching weapons as they rode into battle atop drakes and wyverns. Though only a few remain, those who are blessed and trained in the art of the dragon become unpredictable and unstoppable combatants, especially against chromatic dragons. #### Tenets of the Dragoon - ***Heaven’s Ward.*** Protect thy skies as you would protect those whom live under its embrace. - ***Heaven’s Justice.*** Descend and deliver judgment upon those who would commit evil. - ***Heaven’s Soul.*** Shall you be merciful or merciless? You decide whether thee should be forgiven or forsaken. ### Draconic Training At **3rd level**, your style of fighting has been impressed upon you the history of its draconic roots. You learn *Draconic*, and gain proficiency in your choice of *Acrobatics* or *Athletics*. ### Dragoon Leap You gain advantage on all *STR (Athletics)* checks made to jump when not wearing heavy armor. You can leap a number of feet equal to your STR mod x 5 feet, in terms of height, as a running high jump. You leap 10 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see. As an action, you can make a high jump as an attack; If your attack after this leap hits, you gain a +1d6 bonus damage with your weapon, plus an additional +1d6 for every 10ft, up to 100ft max, into the air you leap when striking with a polearm or spear. *You can use this feature equal to your STR mod. At 18th level, you can use this feature as a bonus action.* ### Feat Mastery You gain the *Polearm Mastery, Spear Mastery or Great Weapon Master feat*. Your jump from using your *Dragoon's Leap* doesn't provoke opportunity attacks, and your standing long and high jumps are treated as if you had moved 10 feet before making the jump. ### Dragoon Artes You learn techniques that partially imbues with draconic powers the stronger you learn from the dragons. #### ***Dragoon Artes - Flickering Roar*** By concentrating your holy energy into your spear or reach weapon, transforming it into a radiant javelin. You throw your weapon in a direction that will pierce through all creatures in a line as far as from 10 to 120 feet or until it hits the last target you’ve chosen. You can throw it in an arc as well to only strike a single target. Each creature within the line must make a DC16 DEX saving throw, taking 2d6 piercing & 2d6 radiant damage plus STR mod on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. If it’s a single target, it’s a DC18 DEX save and the creature takes 3d6 piercing & 3d6 radiant damage plus STR mod. *You can use this ability twice per long rest. At 11th level, you can use this ability two times per long rest; At 15th level, you can use this ability three times per long rest.* ### Improved Dragoon's Leap At **10th level**, you have improved your ability to mimic a dragon's flight. At 18th level, the jump distance increases to 20 feet and you can make one melee weapon attack against a creature in range as a bonus action. ### Fall Mastery You ignore the first 10 feet of falling damage. You also gain resistance to falling damage when not wearing heavy armor. In addition, if you suffer no damage from a fall, you automatically land on your feet. The amount of falling distance you can ignore increases to 20 feet at 15th level, and you don’t take any fall damage at 20th level. \pagebreak ##### 13th level #### ***Dragoon Artes - Fang & Claw*** By imbuing your weapon with radiant energy, you swing your weapon with elegant flourishes then end with a piercing jab. > ## Note > I had this in the works for a while but never got around to making changes to it. I took inspiration of how other people made their own versions of Dragoons as a class and subclass but mostly were Fighter based. Feel free to make changes for yourself.
