Jar of Bees

Uncommon Wonderous Item. No attunement needed. Single use.

An earthenware jar that has been sealed tight with a cork and bees wax. Makes a buzzing sound if shaken.

Can be thrown at an opponent as a ranged weapon attack (range 30/60). If you miss the target, roll 1d8. This determines the misdirection of the throw, with 1 being straight back at you and 2 through 8 counting clockwise around the grid intersection or target creature. When the jar breaks a swarm of angry bees emerges and will fill a 5 foot square around the point of impact and attacks any creature in that square.

If there is no target in the square where the jar breaks, the swarm will move towards the next nearest target and attack, even if it's a friendly target. While the swarm lives, it will continue to attack a target each round. If it's current target dies, it will use it's next move action to attack the next nearest target.

Duration: 1 minute. The swarm dissipates after 1 minute.
