Arcane Tradition: Chronomancer

Time is a peculiar and hard concept to study, especially combined with the arts of magic. Manipulating the flow of time grants a wizard control over the battlefield, as positions and executions of events are seen through a new dimensional perspective.

Organic Clock

When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, your inner clock is in perfection. You always know how much time has passed since a certain point, down to the second, that is not before you gained this feature. Additionally, you know the difference in time flow between planes you have been to.

Guiding Glimpse

Starting at 2nd level, with the use of a bonus action you can get a quick glimpse to see how a future event unfolds. Before rolling, you can grant yourself advantage on your next attack or ability check. This can also be used to impose disadvantage on the next attack targeted towards you within the next hour.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (a minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Timeless Casting

Beginning at 6th level, your spells do not follow the standard laws of time. The following features can used when you cast a spell, for a total of 3 times. You regain any spent uses when you finish a short or long rest.

Prepared Activation. You cast a spell that has a casting time of 1 action or bonus action in a timeless void, delaying the activation of it. You can then activate the spell on any of your subsequent turns while the spell remains in the void (no action required), together with any required somatic or verbal components. You can not cast a 1st level spell or higher on the same turn as activating the spell from its void. You can only have one spell stored in the void, and it will disappear after 1 hour if not used.

Delayed Effect. Any required rolls from the spell on your turn are rolled, but any effects that occur are delayed until the start of your next turn.

Lagging Target. Mark a target's position. Your spells act as if the target is on the marked position until the end of your next turn. You can extend the marked position for one more round per use.

Pulling the Procedure

Starting at 10th level, you have a better control of what happens in what order. You have advantage on initiative rolls. At the beginning of combat, you can select two creatures to make a Charisma saving throw against your Spellcasting DC. If they both fail, their initiative order is swapped. A creature can willingly fail this saving throw.

Visionary Prospect

Beginning at 14th level, you constantly see how things will move and have moved in the near momentum. You gain a +1 to your AC and saving throws. Additionally, you can use your Guiding Glimpse feature as a reaction to stop yourself from being surprised.

These four time-oriented spells are included as flavor. You don't have to be a Chronomancer to learn these spells.

Chronoflash

4th-level conjuration

  • Classes: Warlock, Wizard
  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self (30-foot-radius)
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: 1 Round

When you cast this spell, a purple bubble of time freeze appears in a 60 ft. sphere with you as the center. Creatures and anything solid that is fully inside the sphere are frozen in time for 1 round, meaning their turn is entirely skipped and unaware of the chronoflash. Interactions from outside into the bubble will fail, one can only look inside it. You are also frozen in time but aware of it, aswell as you can see and hear outside the bubble.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the bubble will last one additional round.

Deja Vu

1st-level conjuration

  • Classes: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
  • Casting Time: 1 bonus action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: V
  • Duration: Instantaneous

As a bonus action, you appear back at the location you were at the end of your last turn. The location must be within 120 feet of you and an unoccupied space.

Rapid Recovery

2nd-level transmutation

  • Classes: Cleric, Wizard
  • Casting Time: 1 minute
  • Range: Touch
  • Components: S, M (a small flower)
  • Duration: Instantaneous

You touch a willing prone creature. Whilst casting the spell, their body will rapidly accelerate to the future. During this time, the creature is incapacitated and can't move, but doesn't suffer exhaustion due to time elapsed not resting. If the spell lasts for its full duration, 1 hour has passed for the creature. If the spell is interrupted, the creature reverts to the state it was in before the spell was cast. The accelerated time of this spell affects the duration of spells, magical effects, poisons and other effects with limited durations both on the target and used by the target, but doesn't count towards the duration of a short or long rest.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th or 5th level, the creature will wind 8 hours to the future. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th or 7th level, the creature will wind 24 hours to the future. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th or 9th level, the creature will wind 7 days to the future.

Warpbolt

1st-level evocation

  • Classes: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
  • Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when a creature within 60 feet of you starts casting a cantrip
  • Range: 60 ft.
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: Instantaneous

You make a parallel version of a cantrip cast by a creature, by taking it from a separate time-dimension. The cantrip must have a casting time of 1 action or bonus action, and must involve a ranged spell attack. The parallel version will have the same result that the original cantrip rolled, including the original modifiers. You can select any target within that cantrip's range to cast the parrallel version on, from your position.
