## Awakened Ape

You aren't like other apes. For one reason or another, you are sapient. Perhaps some powerful mage wanted an intelligent servant. Perhaps a traveling group of adventurers decided to cast Awaken on you for their amusement. Perhaps you simply woke up one day and don't know why. Whatever the reason, you've left behind the life of a beast in order to become an adventurer.

### Awakened Ape Traits

**Ability Score Increase.** Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.

**Age.** Apes grow up faster than hummans, but generally do not live as long. An ape is fully grown by about ten years old, and typically lives into their 40s or 50s.

**Alignment.** Most apes, lacking sapience, do not have an alignment. Thanks to your awakening, you are free to choose whichever alignment you wish.

**Size.** Your height and weight will be heavily dependent upon the species of ape that you are. The smallest of apes can be as short as 4 feet and as light as 100 pounds, while the largest can be as tall as 6 feet and weigh up to 400 pounds. Your size is Medium.

**Speed.** Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

**Arboreal Climber.** You are well-adapted to a life among the trees. You have a climbing speed of 30 feet.

**Dexterous Feet.** Your feet can serve as a second pair of hands. They have a reach of 5 feet, and can lift a number of pounds equal to five times your Strength score. You can grasp things with your feet, and can use them to do the following simple tasks: lift, drop, hold, push, or pull an object or a creature; open or close a door or a container; grapple someone; or make an unarmed strike. Your DM might allow other simple tasks to be added to that list of options.

Your feet are also dexterous enough to handle tasks that require manual precision, such as using tools or performing the somatic components of spells, but they cannot wield weapons or a shield.

While holding something with one or both feet, your walking speed is halved. Your climbing speed is halved as well, unless both your hands are free.

**Long-Limbed.** When you make a melee attack on your turn with your arms, your reach for it is 5 feet greater than normal.

**Simian Brotherhood.** You have advantage on Wisdom (Animal Handling) checks when interacting with apes and other primates.

**Languages.** You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice, typically one spoken by your awakener.
