But after centuries of imprisonment, Aatrox was the first to find freedom once more, corrupting and transforming those foolish enough to try and wield the magical weapon that contained his essence. Now with stolen flesh, he walks Runeterra in a brutal approximation of his previous form, seeking an apocalyptic and long overdue vengeance. Many tales have been told of the Darkin Blade... but few know its real name, or the story of its fall. ___ In ancient times, long before desert sands swallowed the empire, a mighty champion of Shurima was brought before the Sun Disc to become the avatar. Remade as one of the Ascended, his wings were the golden light of dawn, and his armor sparkled like a constellation of hope from beyond the great veil. ___ Aatrox was his name. He was at the vanguard of every noble conflict. So true and just was his conduct that other god-warriors would always gather at his side, and ten thousand mortals of Shurima marched behind him. When Setaka, the Ascended warrior-queen, called for his help against the rebellion of Icathia, Aatrox answered without hesitation. ___ But no one predicted the extent of the horrors that the rebels would unleash — The Void quickly overwhelmed its Icathian masters, and began the grinding annihilation of all life it encountered. ___ After many years of desperate battle, Aatrox and his brethren finally halted the Void's perverse advance, and seared the largest rifts shut. But the surviving Ascended, the self-described Sunborn, had been forever changed by what they had encountered. Though Shurima had triumphed, they all had lost something in their victory... ___ And in time, the empire of Shurima fell. ___ Without the power of the sun disc, the Sunborn began to clash with one another, hopeing to harvest the power remaining in each other. Eventually this became a war for the ruins of their world. Mortals fleeing the conflict came to know them instead by a new and scornful name: the darkin. ___ Fearing that these fallen Ascended were as dangerous to Runeterra's survival as the Void incursions had been, the Targonians intervened. Knowing the darkin were still to to strong to kill, the Aspect of Twilight gave mortals the knowledge to trap the darkin. After a long and bloody conflict that lasted nearly a decade, the mortal armies succeed in traping the last of darkin. ___ Once sealed, the darkin were skattered, each one being given to one of the great powers of the time. Centuries passed, and the darkin were all but forgotten. That is, until one brave adventure found an ancient blade, buried in the ruins of ancient civilitation. Aatrox seized upon this opportunity, forcing his will and an imitation of his original form onto his bearer, though the process quickly drained all life from the new body. ___ In the decades that followed, many more found Aatrox, and all met the same fate. That is, until one individual, a conquerer searching for a blade to rule all, was worthy and survied Aatrox's will. ___ But that was a hundred years ago. By the modern times, Aatrox was hidden again, and to this day, was lost to the ages. Until one day... \pagebreakNum > ### Aatrox, The Darkin Blade > Greatsword. Requires attunement by a non-good creature > ___ > > This blade looks of the finest craftmanship that you have ever seen. It appears nigh indestructible and is lighter than it appears. If you stare for long enough, you could swear it was breathing. > >___ > This weapon is a considered a +2 Magical Weapon. It has the following additional properties. > > >___ > ***The Darkin Blade***: Whenever you take the attack action, you can choose to make a special attack. You make 3 attacks, each attack targets a different area, however they must progress in order. > * Your 1st attack targets a 10ft line starting from you > * Your 2nd attack targets in a 15ft cone starting from you > * Your 3rd attack targets a 5ft radius around you. > > On each of these attacks, each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw equal to (8 + proficiency + strength modifier). >___ > > ***(Not Visable to Player)*** > ___ > >___ > ***Sentiance*** Aatrox is a sentiant, Chaotic evil weapon with an intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 15, and a Charisma of 17. It has hearing, darkvsion, and devilsight out to a range of 60 feet. > Aatrox can read, speak, and understand Common and Abyssal, as well as share a telepathic link with its wielder. While attuned to it, Aatrox also understands all languages you know. >___ > ***Witness Truth***: Whenever a creature uses Aatrox to kill a creature, at the end of combat that creature and Aatrox must make a contested charisma saving throw. Whenever Aatrox succeds, the wielder becomes more corrupted by the darkin. After Aatrox has succeed 15 times, he completyly corrupts his host, controlling their body and locking their soul in the weapon. On 15 failures, Aatrox is silenced for the next decade and the creature loses any darkin corruption from this weapon. > The chart below shows what parts of a traditional humanoid body are corrupted by the blade. Additionally, at each tier, an attuned creature recieves +1 to their Strength score (up to a max of 22), and +1 their Unarmored AC. >___ > ***Personality*** Aatrox craves to return to its humanoid form. It constantly seeks the thrill of battle and the taste of blood on its blade. As such, it goads its user to fight at any cost. If Aatrox wishes, it can force a Charisma Saving throw on its host to will it to fight. The DC starts at 10, and increases by 1 for each tier of Darkin corruption. That said, Aatrox will do its best to remain on good terms with its host so long as it finds them worthy, so it can eventually regain its humanoid form. \columnbreak ##### Darkin Coruption | Creatures Killed | Corrupted | |:----:|:-------------| | 2 | Sword Arm + Hand | | 5 | Back | | 7 | Other Arm + Hand | | 10 | Chest | | 13 | Waist + Legs | | 15 | Neck + Head | ___ If a creature ever attempts to un-attune from Aatrox, it must make a constested charisma check. On a failure, the creature remains attuned, and cannot attempt to un-attune for another week.
