Enchantment Transfers
Sometimes your GM is a dick to you and gives their rogue a Flame Tongue Greatsword. You would see this slight against your personal honor righted and move the Flame Tongue enchantment to a finer blade, a nice shortsword maybe.
Enchantment Slots
Any weapon or armor can have their enchantments swapped to other like-objects. The number of slots an item has is defaulted at 4 slots, with each enchantment rarity increasing the number of slots taken. An object can not exceed 4 slots except through a Wish spell.
Rarity | Slots |
---|---|
Common | 1/2 |
Uncommon | 1 |
Rare | 2 |
Very Rare | 3 |
Legendary | 4 |
Artifact | 6 |
When an item has an enchantment removed from it, it is turned to dust in the process even if it has other enchantments on it.
Attunement
If an item has an Attunement requirement, and you wish to transfer one of its enchantments to another item:
- the target item must not require Attunement
- the target item will gain the Attunement property
If an item does not have an Attunement requirement, and you wish to transfer one of its enchantments to another item:
- that has an Attunement requirement, the target item will keep its Attunement property
- that does not have an Attunement requirement, the target item will not take the Attunement property
Cost
To transfer an enchantment from one item to another, you must find someone skilled in such matters, like the Academy of Magics in Aurora, or another powerful arcane spellcaster. To transfer an enchantment, an appropriate spell slot must be expended for the transfer as detailed in the chart below. When deciding what level slot is required, the highest rarity on either item of the transference determines the arcane Spell Slot required.
Rarity | Spell Slot | Typical Arcane Spell Cost |
---|---|---|
Common | 1 | 50 gp |
Uncommon | 3 | 150 gp |
Rare | 5 | 250 gp |
Very Rare | 7 | 700 gp |
Legendary | 9 | 1000 gp |
Beyond the normal cost of spellcasting services, you must also provide the material cost to transfer such enchantments. Each enchantment transfer requires expensive gems that will be turned to dust in the process as detailed in the chart below. When deciding your cost, the highest rarity on either item of the transference determines the cost of the transfer.
Rarity | Gem Cost |
---|---|
Common | 200 gp |
Uncommon | 800 gp |
Rare | 3,200 gp |
Very Rare | 9,600 gp |
Legendary | 19,200 gp |
Transferring Between Items
When transferring between items, they must be of the same type. This means that each item must fall in the same category, a weapon can not transfer its Enchantments to a piece of armor. The categories are: Armor, Potion, Ring, Rod, Scroll, Staff, Wand, Weapon, Wondrous.
Similar Enchantments
When an enchantment you want to transfer is the same enchantment on the other item, some enchantments will stack as charges (Wand of Magic Missile) and others will have no additional effects (Cloak of Protection).
