Way of the Raging Inferno

Monks of the Way of the Raging Inferno follow a tradition that teaches sacrifice in the face of impassible obstacles. These monks are known as smoldering ones or phoenixes, and they are able to combust their ki, accelerating their body past the point of safety. Many of the techniques they utilize result in the destruction of their own body and soul in order to amplify their speed and strength, to the point where their fists can catch fire due to their immense speed.

Many monks of this tradition have fatalist worldviews, influenced by the martyism innate to their martial techniques. They burn out their life and soul when needed, never letting their anger destroy them more than necessary.

Burning Fire Strike

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn special techniques that allow you to strike faster and harder at the cost of your vitality.

  • When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can make an additional unarmed strike. If you do so, you take 1d6 fire damage.
  • When you make an unarmed strike, you can expend a ki point to deal a additional d4 of fire damage to yourself and an additional d4 of bludgeoning damage to the target. These dice change as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.

Searing Blast

At 6th level, you learn to channel your ki into a destructive blast. As an action, you can expend up to 4 ki points. You take 3d6 fire damage, and each creature within 15 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 6d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. For each ki point beyond the first, the fire damage for both you and the targets increase by 1d6.

Firestorm

At 11th level, you learn to accelerate your body, temporarily pushing it past its limits. As a bonus action, you can spend 4 ki points to cast haste, targeting yourself and not requiring concentration. Once the spell ends, instead of being hit with a wave of lethargy, you take 2d6 fire damage.

Inferno

At 17th level, you can transform the ki running through your body into pure fire as a bonus action, transforming you into a blaze of light. While blazing, you gain the following benefits:

  • You emit bright light for 15 feet and dim light for 15 feet beyond that.
  • At the start of your turn, you and each creature within 15 feet of you take 2d6 fire damage.
  • Your speed increases by 30 feet.
  • When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can make one additional unarmed strike.
  • When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can push the creature up to 10 feet away from you.

You remain blazing for 1 minute, until you choose to end it (no action required), or until you're rendered unconscious. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you complete a long rest.
