## Rogue Archetypes ### Divine Agent Not all priests are clerics. Not all problems can be solved by prayer and preaching. Sometimes a more subtle touch is needed to steer the world as the faith dictates, and that is the roll of a Divine Agent. A blade in the night that commits the lesser evil for the greater good, or a quick end to someone that sniffed too close the Cult of Vecna's business, both could be the work of these divinely guided rogues. Good is not nice, evil is not stupid. Whatever the organization or god a Divine Agent serves, it is one that understands the practical nature of the world. Spying, stealing, extracting information, purging the heretics... they have many tasks before them, and complete them with a grim determination. A Divine Agent is almost always lawful following an organizational code with zealous focus, but the laws they follow may or may not have any relation to the laws of the land they are in. > ##### Naming Convention: Inquisitor? > > This archetype shares a lot of conceptual space with what many entries in the genre would call an "Inquisitor", but there already exists the "Inquisitive" rogue that lacks the divine backing present here, and having two archetypes with such similar names would ultimately cause confusion.. #### Purification Starting at 3rd level, when you deal damage with your Sneak Attack, you can choose to deal the extra damage as Radiant damage. #### Church Militant When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the religion skill, martial weapons, and when you use holy water as a weapon, it counts as a ranged weapon your have proficiency with. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for Intelligence (Religion) checks. #### Sanctification At 9th, you learn the spells *protection from good & evil*, *divine favor*, and *shield of faith*. You can cast these spells without consuming a spell lot a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (combining all uses of these spells). You regain all uses after completing a long rest. You can use a Holy Symbol as your focus for these spells. Additionally, during a short or long rest, you can create one use of Holy Water from normal water expending 25 gold of components by reciting a ten minute ritual. > ##### Divine Agent Holy Symbol > > A holy symbol is a representation of a god or pantheon. To use the symbol in this way, the caster must hold it in hand, wear it visibly, or bear it on a shield. #### Divine Guidance Starting at 13th level, you gain the ability to cast *guidance* and *augury* at will (the normal consequence of casting augury multiple times still applies). Additionally, if you have dealt radiant damage to a creature within the last minute, you have advantage on all Wisdom (Perception) or Intelligence (Investigation) checks against it or its magical effects, and can see that unimpeded by darkness (even magical darkness). #### Cleansing Fire Starting at 17th level, you can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to grasp your holy symbol and burn away any evil affliction, ending the effect of a curse, disease, or condition inflicted by magic on yourself. When you do this, you take 1d12 fire damage that cannot be resisted in any way, but gain an equal number of temporary hit points. Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you complete a short or long rest. Additionally, *flamestrike* and *fire shield* are added to the spells you can cast using Sanctification .
\pagebreak ### Divine Agent Quirks The following are some optional quirks for a player of the Divine Agent to choose from. They can be preexisting when you make your character leading you to this path, or manifest as your character takes on this archetype. | d6 | Quirk | |:---:|:-----------:| | 1 | When you start talking passionately, your eyes begin to glow with zeal. | | 2 | You burn the corpses of your fallen enemies. No exceptions. | | 3 | You recite a mantra to your deity during combat or times of peril | | 4 | You use the pronoun "we"... you and your god as act as one. | | 5 | You inscribe a prayer on your weapons to send off the departed. | | 6 | You do not fear death. You believe your service will not end when your life does. | > ##### Divine Agent vs. Paladin > > Some might view a Divine Agent as being similar to the Paladin class - in some ways it is. It represents an interpretation of a zeal inspired agent that has some overlap, but serves in a different capacity, much as a Path of the Zealot Barbarian is neither a cleric nor a Paladin, but still may draw on divine fervor. > > A Paladin will kick down the door of a heretic that needs to be dealt with. A Path of the Zealot Barbarian will smash through their wall. A Divine Agent will slip in the window at night, and out of the now burning building shortly after. ## Art Credits: * Inquisitor Art, Paizo. \columnbreak ## Supported By Creation is made possible by generous patrons: - Alec Carlyle - Andrew Hoertt - Angel Gomez - Ara Enzeru - Austin Fox - Billy Dick - C.
