Chains of Tartarus

Conjuration cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 10 feet
  • Components: S, M (a length of chain)
  • Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
  • Classes: Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard

Ethereal chains sprout from the ground and attempt to entangle a creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or its speed is reduced 0 feet for the duration. The target can repeat the saving throw at the start of each of its turns, ending the spell on a success.

Eldritch Invocations

Empowered Chains

Prerequisite: chains of tartarus cantrip

When you cast the chains of tartarus cantrip, its range is 30 feet, and the target is also incapacitated for the duration if it fails its saving throw.

Enslaver

Prerequisite: 7th level, chains of tartarus cantrip

When you restrain a target with the chains of tartarus cantrip, you can use your bonus action to move it up to 10 feet horizontally. If you move the targeted creature out of the range, the spell ends.

Constriction

Prerequisite: 10th level, chains of tartarus cantrip

When you entangle a creature with chains of tartarus, you can deal bludgeoning damage to it equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1), and you can do so again at the start of each of your turns until the spell ends.

Added Utility

There may be situations where you may want to use this spell to stop your own movement or that of an ally (e.g. preventing being knocked off a cliff). Speak with your DM about whether you would be able to do such a thing.
