Way of the Ruminant
Mind over matter. With sufficient application of will, anything is possible. Using deep meditation techniques, monks who follow this path delve into the darkest depths of consciousness. With their unsurpassed understanding of their minds' mystical inner workings, they transform their own mental abilities into deadly psychic force.
Blow to the Brain
Starting at 3rd level, you strike at the mind instead of the body. When you make an attack roll, you can spend 2 ki points to ignore the AC of your target and hit automatically. You deal psychic damage with this attack, and the damage you deal is halved.
In addition, anytime you damage a creature with an unarmed strike, you can deal psychic damage instead of bludgeoning.
Depths of the Mind
Starting at 6th level, instead of sleeping as most creatures do, you spend your resting hours in deep meditation. You only need 4 hours in order to gain the benefits of a long rest, during which time you are dreaming and semiconscious.
Your forays into your unconscious mind give you greater control over the depths of your mind, allowing you return from it easily. When reduced to 0 hit points, you only need two death saving throws, rather than three, to become stable.
Ascended Consciousness
Starting at 11th level, your efforts to push your mind past the physical barrier of your body have borne fruit. You can use your action to spend 1 ki point and gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed, which you can end at any time, requiring no action. At the start of each turn that you have this flying speed, you expend 1 ki point to maintain it.
Because your mind exists in a higher state than most, you are also immune to psychic damage.
Battle Trance
The ringing of blades, the pandemonium of the battlefield, and the rush of adrenaline have become calming and meditative. Beginning at level 17, whenever you roll initiative, you enter a nirvanic state, which grants you the following benefits:
- You cannot be charmed, frightened, surprised, or magically put to sleep.
- Your attacks with unarmed strikes and monk weapons score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
- If you land an attack with Blow to the Brain, it deals its full damage instead of half.
Once you enter this state, you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest.
