Otherworldly Patrons

At 1st level, a warlock gains the Otherworldly Patron feature. The following options are available to a warlock, in addition to those offered in the Player's Handbook:

The Primeval

You have made a pact with the very essence of nature itself. Not a specific entity, but the network of plant, animal and fungal life that makes up the many natural worlds.

Those bound to the Primeval may be hermits, wanderers, and others who find solace in the isolation of natures beauty. They value the peaceful quiet of the forests and plains they protect. But if the primeval forces of nature designates a creature as worthy of traveling through, these warlocks will protect them just as viciously as they would drive away that would harm the natural order.

These warlocks can often be found working alongside druids and rangers who protect the wood as they do. Many of these warlocks can be seen as prophets in Druidic Circles, and are seen as the voices of nature itself.

Expanded Spell List

The Primeval lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Primeval Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1st entangle, snare
2nd animal messenger, spike growth
3rd plant growth, speak with plants
4th freedom of movement, guardian of nature
5th passwall, wrath of nature

Bonus Proficiencies

At 1st level, you gain proficiency in the Nature and Survival skills.

Nature's Ward

Also starting at 1st level, your patron gives you the ability to command the environment around you, allowing you to harness it for your allies’ protection.

When an allied creature within 15 feet of you is targeted with an attack or is forced to make a Dexterity saving throw, you can use your reaction to summon a mass of wood, stone, and thick foliage to momentarily protect them, granting them half cover from the attack or effect. Once the roll is resolved, the barrier instantly crumbles.

You can make this reaction after the ally has been targeted but before a roll is made.

Empowered Warden

Starting at 6th level, you are rewarded by your patron for safely protecting your allies.

When a creature succeeds on a saving throw or is missed by an attack roll when under your Nature's Ward feature, vines and plant matter sprout from your skin to protect you as well. You gain resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage until the start of your next turn.

Escort Through the Unknown

At 10th level, your presence commands the respect of the forests most fearsome creatures. You have advantage on saving throws against spells and effects that would cause you to be charmed or restrained. Additionally, you gain advantage on Charisma checks made to communicate with creatures while in a natural setting.

Master of the Wild

At 14th level, the magic of the wild has granted you the power to travel the realms with ease. When you finish a long rest, you can immediately cast one of the following spells, without expending a spell slot or requiring material components: druid grove, transport via plants, or commune with nature. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Bloodhunter, Grove Guardian

Some warriors, rather than forming a full blooded pact with nature, partake in a druidic spiritual take on the ritual of Hunters Bane, becoming Bloodhunters. At DM's discretion, a bloodhunter that chooses the order of the profane soul can choose the Primeval as their patron, and gain the following benefits:

Rite Focus

Your chosen pact also enhances your rite.
The Primeval. Once a turn, when you deal rite damage to a creature, that creature's speed is halved until the beginning of your next turn.

Revealed Arcana

At 7th level, your dark patron grants you the rare use of a dangerous arcane spell based on your pact. The Primeval. You can cast spike growth once using a profane soul spell slot. You can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.

Unsealed Arcana

At 15th level, your dark patron grants you the rare use of an additional arcane spell based on your pact.
The Primeval. You can cast plant growth once without using a profane soul spell slot. You can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
