Promethean Conclave

Their flames spread havoc, but their ashes breath new life; phoenixes are the ultimate symbol of creation and destruction. Prometheans are the rangers that worship, admire, or emulate the phoenix's raw power, granting them control over the duality of light and fire. With this power, they seek to rid the world of its darkness, and purify it in flames.

Promethean Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Promethean Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you but doesn't count against the number of ranger spells you know.

Promethean Spells
Ranger Level Spell
3rd faerie fire
5th branding smite
9th fly
13th wall of fire
17th dawn

Torch Bearer

At 3rd level, you burn brightest against the fiercest darkness. When you hit a creature with a weapon attack while you or the target is in dim or bright light, the target takes radiant damage equal to 1d4 + your Wisdom modifier. You can deal this extra damage only once per turn.

Also, you gain the control flames and light cantrips if you did not already know them. Wisdom is your spellcasting modifier for these spells.

Down of Cinders

At 7th level, when another creature within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to cover your body in a searing radiance. Until the end of your next turn, you shed bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. While this radiance is active, whenever a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee attack, including the creature that triggered this reaction, the attacker takes 2d8 radiant damage.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier. You regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Blazing Prominence

At 11th level, your inner fire intensifies, consuming your enemies. When you deal damage to a creature with your Torch Bearer feature, each creature of your choice within 5 feet of the target takes radiant damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Ashes to Ashes

At 15th level, you have unlocked the secrets of the phoenix. You no longer suffer the effects of old age, and you can't be aged magically. You can still die of old age, however.

If you die from anything other than old age, you explode, and each creature of your choice within 30 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw against your ranger spell save DC. A target takes radiant damage equal to three times your ranger level on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The explosion ignites flammable objects in that area that aren't being worn or carried.

Afterwards, you return to life in 1d12 hours as a child version of yourself with your hit point maximum halved. Your hit point maximum increases by your ranger level each day until it reaches your previous maximum. You rapidly age at the end of each day until you reach your previous hit point maximum, upon which you also reach your previous age.

Once you have used this feature, it cannot be used again for 7 days. If you die and your body is completely destroyed before you explode, this feature does not have the capability to function and you will not return to life.
