The Modrons of Mechanus

Immortal Servitude

Modrons are a race of mechanical immortals created by Primus to serve him. They come from the plane of Mechanus where they live out their lives in work.

Appearance

All Modrons live in the hierarchy of Mechanus where their place in it defines their shape and capability of thought. If a Modron were to be killed, a new one would be created immediately and the hierarchy would fix itself. While all Modrons of the same type look exactly like one another, their difference in shape between their types is extreme.

Playing a Modron

When creating a Modron character, think about why they are no longer on the plane of Mechanus, and are instead in the world the campaign takes place in, this could be because they were damaged and cast out, but weren't damaged enough to completely die so they recovered and now wonder the material plane in search of purpose. You must also remember that Modrons are methodical, emotionless and purely robotic in thinking.

Base Modron Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution is increased by 2, and your Intelligence is decreased by 2.
Age. As a Modron, you do not age and you are created completely mature. As such you cannot be aged by any magic and cannot die of old age.
Alignment. Finding a Modron that is not Lawful Neutral is nigh impossible, and those that aren't Lawful Neutral are probably defected.
Size. Modrons vary in height from the 4ft Monodrone up to the 12ft Pentadrone depending on their type. Your size is large if you are a Pentadrone, otherwise it's medium.
Speed. You have a base walking speed of 30ft.
Mechanical Construction. You immune to diseases, poison damage and the poisoned condition.
Sleepless Workers. Modrons in the Mechanus never sleep, working tirelessly, however if they're separated from their plane of origin they start experiences tiredness. You must spend 4 hours each day resting or you suffer from normal negative effects of not takin a long rest.

Monodrone

You have a spherical body, one eye, 2 arms and 2 legs and a set of rudimentary wings.

Rudimentary Flight. You have a set of simple wings that give you a flying speed of 25ft.
Languages. You can understand and speak Common and Modron, however you can only communicate simple ideas, up to 48 words at a time.

Duodrone

You have a cube body, two eyes, made of two separate cuboids, 2 arms and 2 legs.

Two Piece Construction. You are constructed out of two separate cuboids connected by a singular small pillar and gears. This allows you to rotate your upper part where your eyes are. As long as you are conscious you cannot be surprised by enemies sneaking up on you, however you cannot see invisibility, and can be surprised by an invisible enemy.
Languages. You can understand and speak Common and Modron.

Tridrones

Your body is an inverse 3 sided pyramid with an eye on each side and you have 3 arms and 6 legs.

Tri-Armed. You have 3 arms, each attached to one of your sides, and you can use all 3 to hold items or weapons, however you can only use 2 at once, unless using 2 for the same tasks, like holding a two-handed or versatile weapon. For instance, you can hold 2 longswords and a shield, but can only use 2 of those items in one turn, or you can hold a quarterstaff with two hands, and a dagger in the third, using 2 items but all 3 hands at once.
Languages. You can understand and speak Common and Modron.

Quadrones

You have a cube shaped body with stubby rudimentary wings, 2 arms and 2 legs.

Ingrained Archery. You have proficiency in Longbows and Shortbows.
Rudimentary Flight. You have a set of simple wings that give you a flying speed of 10ft.
Languages. You can understand and speak Common and Modron.

Pentadrones

You are shaped like a five-pointed clockwork starfish with one eye on each appendage with 5 legs.

Starfish Arms. You used your starfish appendages as arms. Because of their simplicity and lack of precision you must use 2 arms to hold an object of any kind, and you cannot use them to perform any extremely precise tasks such as using tools, picking locks, etc.
Sticky Surface. You have a sticky resin laced on the surface of your body and the bottom of your feet. You gain a 30ft climbing speed.

Hierarch Modrons

I didn't include Hierarch Modrons in this race because they would be too overpowered for player races, not to mention that the chances of a Hierarch Modron going rogue is night impossible, and that rogue Modrons are in almost all cases Base Modrons. If you however wish to include Hierarch Modrons in your game as a race then just use the Base Modron traits, however remove the negative to Intelligence. As for subraces, I recommend making your own using their physical description and appearance. If you don't know where to find those, just look them up on Google Images or the Forgotten Realms Wikia.
