Egotist

An Archetype for Rangers

You hunt not for food or survival, or for anything your prey's physical form can provide. You hunt for your prey's mind. You hunt for secrets and knowledge kept otherwise hidden, whether the purpose that search is preservation or destruction. Your own intellect is as dangerous as your weapon, and both operate in seamless harmony to extract the information you seek.

Egotist Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Egotist Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.

Mind Hunter

At 3rd level, your mental and psionic abilities are powerful enough to assault the minds of your enemies.

You can use Intelligence as your spellcasting ability instead of Wisdom.

Additionally, as a bonus action, you can designate a creature you can see within 60 feet of you as the target of this feature. The first time each turn that you hit that creature with a weapon attack, it takes an extra 1d6 psychic damage. If that creature’s Intelligence score is equal to or higher than yours, it takes 1d8 psychic damage instead.

This benefit lasts until you finish a short or long rest. It ends early if you designate a different creature.

Psionic Awareness

At 3rd level, your mind becomes highly sensitive to the presence of others. If they are not already, your favored enemies are added to the list of creatures detected by your Primeval Awareness feature.

Additionally, when you use your Primeval Awareness, you learn the distance and direction of the creature (or creatures) with the highest Intelligence score for each creature type on the Primeval Awareness list, and if each of those scores is higher or lower than your own.

Oracle

At 7th level, you are able to project your senses across long distances. When you use your Primeval Awareness, you can choose to observe one of the intelligent creatures detected by your Psionic Awareness.

Until your Primeval Awareness ends, you become blind and deaf to your own surroundings and instead see and hear through an invisible sensor that appears within 30 feet of one creature with an Intelligence score registered by your Psionic Awareness. You can end this detection early with a thought (no action required).

Ego Death

At 11th level, other creatures cease to detect your mental activity. You are immune to being charmed, and you are hidden from divination magic. You are immune to magic that allows other creatures to read your thoughts, determine whether you are lying know your alignment, or know your creature type. Creatures can telepathically communicate with you only if you allow it.

Brain Shaker

At 15th level, your ability to connect to others’ senses has grown so strong that you can overpower their agency entirely. When the target of your Mind Hunter ability takes the Attack action, you can use your reaction to force it to make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, you choose the targets of its attack(s), or it spends its action doing nothing. A creature that fails this saving throw cannot attack itself.

Once a creature fails this saving throw, you cannot use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.
