Battle Master

Those who emulate the archetypal Battle Master employ martial techniques passed down through generations. To a Battle Master, combat is an academic field, sometimes including subjects beyond battle such as weaponsmithing and calligraphy. Not every fighter absorbs the lessons of history, theory, and artistry that are reflected in the Battle Master archetype, but those who do are well-rounded fighters of great skill and knowledge.

Archetype Maneuvers

As a Battlemaster you study the art of war. As such, you can learn any Combat Maneuver of your choice.

Student of War

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in History and with one type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Master of Battle

In addition at 3rd level, whenever you use a maneuver your weapon attack deals an additional 1d8 damage, or improves any maneuver die roll to a d8.

You also gain two additional uses of superiority and learn one additional Maneuver of choice from the Maneuver list.

Know Your Enemy

Starting at 7th level, if you spend at least 1 minute observing or interacting with another creature, or spend a round attacking or being attacked by it, you can learn certain information about its capabilities compared to your own. The DM tells you if the creature is your equal, superior, or inferior in regard to two characteristics of your choice:

  • Strength score
  • Dexterity score
  • Constitution score
  • Armor Class
  • Current hit points
  • Total class levels (if any)
  • Fighter class levels (if any)

Improved Combat Superiority

At 10th level your d8 becomes a d10. When you roll initiative and you have expended any Superiority Dice, you regain 1.

You also learn one additional Maneuver of choice from the Maneuver list.

Relentless

Beginning at 15th level, you strike with blinding efficiency in combat, pressing the attack to the fullest. Creatures have Disadvantage on saving throws against your Maneuvers.

Masterful Combat Superiority

Starting at 18th level, your Superiority Dice become d12's.

You know all combat maneuvers and are no longer subject to the 1 maneuver per turn restriction.
