IvelDesigns Maps of Mapping: #001

Hey there weary traveler! You are being subjected to my efforts of attempting self improvement as I try to learn cartography. Although it's impossible for a person to go through life without any artistic outlet, I can safely say that I have gone through my 38 years of existence w/o ever putting pen to paper and then sharing it with the world.

Having something to do with good ol' pen & paper seems like a good change of pace. However, I do plan to put each map to the web in a format that a GM of any skill can download and use for their own purposes.

General Description

Originally created by a clan of Dwarven stonemasons, the stone work in the halls of this lair is of an above average quality. Hallways are 9' tall and all rooms have 12' high ceilings. The exception being the main room, having 20' ceilings.

Doors are solid wood with metal banding and hinges are of high quality. A fairly high strength DC (19 -22) should be needed to break down these doors.

A second option would be for this entire area to be made of poor to fair craftsmanship, with the potential of cave ins.

Grushnak's Lair

Grushnak is a notorious goblin chief and his clan uses this place as a center of operations for their activities. Traps would be found throughout. Due to the single entrance / exit, there could be some sort of alerting scout / spell / system / trap that would notify others deep within the lair of an intruder. The assumption is that the secret cave could be used as an escape route.

The worship room pillars could contain markings to open the secret door if used in the correct combination.
