Harpoon

Martial Melee Weapon, Common

A harpoon is a long spear-like instrument used in fishing, whaling, sealing, and other marine hunting to catch large fish or marine mammals such as whales. It accomplishes this task by impaling the target animal and securing it with barb or toggling claws, allowing the fishermen to use a rope or chain attached to the butt of the projectile to catch the animal. A harpoon can also be used as a weapon.

Weapon Cost Damage Weight Properties
Harpoon 5gp 1d6 piercing 4lb Thrown (range 20/60), Special

Special: A harpoon comes attached with 30ft of hempen rope (6lb). If an attack with the harpoon hits, the creature is harpooned.

You may attempt to shove a harpooned creature, but the creature moves towards you instead of away from you.

A harpooned creature cannot move more than 30ft away from you unless it succeeds a DC (10 + DAMAGE DEALT) (MAX 15) Strength Check to remove the harpoon, if the harpoon is removed this way it is destroyed.

Depending on the length of rope attached, the harpooned state can affect creatures at longer distances. If you are attempting to harpoon a creature at a distance greater than the length of rope attached resolve the attack as a thrown spear.

Whaler

Prerequisite: Proficiency with the Harpoon

You've honed your skills with the Harpoon on the high seas.

  • When you make a shove attack with Harpoon, you may do so to a creature up to two size categories larger than yours.
  • Any strength check you make with the Harpoon, you do so with advantage.
  • There is no cap on the DC to remove a Harpoon you throw. Your Harpoon is not destroyed when an enemy removes it.
